How to Find Dead Stock in Your FBA Inventory

What Is Dead Stock and Why Should You Care?

Dead stock = inventory sitting in FBA that isn't selling fast enough to be liquidated before Amazon's long-term storage fee kicks in.

Amazon charges long-term storage fees on items that have been in their fulfillment centers for more than 365 days (and applies aged inventory surcharges starting at 181 days for many categories).

The longer your inventory sits unsold, the more you pay - not in a lump sum, but in a slow, invisible bleed that most sellers never trace back to the real cause.

The harsh truth: Most sellers only discover their dead stock problem after they see a surprise fee deduction in their Seller Central payment report. By then, the damage is done.

Here's how to get ahead of it.

How to Find Dead Stock ASINs in sellerview.AI

Step 1: Open Your sellerview.AI Dashboard and Scroll Down

Log in to sellerview.AI. Ignore the top-level numbers. Scroll down to the SKU-level metrics table - that's where your inventory health data lives.

Step 2: Click "Filters"

Above the SKU table, click the Filters button. A dropdown will open with predefined filter options.

Step 3: Select "Dead Stock"

From the dropdown, click Dead Stock.

That's it. sellerview.AI instantly shows every ASIN where inventory is piling up faster than it's selling.

Step 4: Read the Numbers

Focus on two columns:

  • Units Sold (Last 30 Days)

  • FBA Inventory Available

These two numbers tell you exactly how long your stock will last at the current sell rate.

How to Read the Data - Real Example

Here's what two ASINs from a real account looked like:

Metric

ASIN A

ASIN B

Units Sold (30 Days)

03 units

01 units

FBA Inventory

7 units

9 units

Days Until Stockout

~70 days

~270 days

ASIN A is moving slowly. ASIN B is almost stuck.
At just 1 unit sold in 30 days, that 9-unit inventory could sit for around 270 days. That means higher storage costs and money blocked in unsold stock.

Sort by "Days Until Stockout" - highest first. Your biggest risks appear at the top immediately.

Two Actions to Fix Dead Stock

Action 1: Sell Faster (Increase Daily Run Rate)

If the product has good reviews and decent conversion - push harder to liquidate.

  • Increase ad spend on that ASIN

  • Add a coupon or limited-time discount

  • Improve listing images or bullet points for better conversion

⚠️ Check ACoS before increasing ad spend. If the product is already running at 80-90% ACoS, spending more just increases your loss. Fix profitability first.

Action 2: Create a Removal Order (Pull It Out of FBA)

If selling faster isn't viable - remove the inventory before fees pile up.

  1. Go to Seller Central - Manage FBA Inventory

  2. Select the dead stock ASIN

  3. Create a Removal Order - Amazon returns units to your address

Yes, there's a small removal fee. But it's almost always cheaper than months of long-term storage fees.

Do This Every Month

Dead stock isn't a one-time audit. Products slow down. Seasons end. Inventory builds up again.

Monthly habit (takes 20 minutes):

  1. Open sellerview.AI → Apply Dead Stock filter

  2. Sort by Days Until Stockout

  3. Any ASIN above 120 days → decide: sell faster or remove

  4. Execute that week

This one habit, done consistently, can save lakhs in avoidable Amazon fees every year.

Stop Paying Amazon for Inventory That Isn't Moving

sellerview.AI makes dead stock visible in two clicks - no spreadsheets, no manual inventory checks, no surprises in your payment report.
